How are the concepts by which we understand oppression shared outside feminism's boundaries? How do we imagine the enunciative position of feminism differently from other demands? What are the histories of the 'borrowed concepts' in feminist thought? Such an ambitious task is bound to be incomplete. I am also bound to disappoint. It will disappoint because each of the chapters is what I have termed a specific genealogy, because the book as a whole does not form a complete genealogy; moreover, each of the specific genealogies pursues a particular line of argument with regard to a particular issue that may not be the reader's particular interest in the debate.

I am intrigued by the impact that politics outside feminism has had on feminist theory; and, in particular, I am intrigued by the impact that politics around 'race' has had on it, although not in the sense of a rational conversation, necessarily.
