Finland is larger than England, Ireland, and Scotland put together! But only slightly more than 5 million people live here. My country is made up of lakes, wetlands, and forests. The Finnish word for Finland is Suomi (SOO- oh-me).  It was then rebuilt into the modern city it is today. " It actually has more than 60,000 lakes, and many of them are connected to each other. We also have thousands of tiny islands along our shores. Almost all of Finland is covered with forests of birch, pine, spruce, and fir trees.

He is holding a lollipop and petting his cat, Misu. Tuomo is wearing a lippalakki (LEE-pah-lah-kee), which is very popular in Finland. A lippalakki is like an American baseball cap. All the young people here wear them. Tuomo's friend is Erkki. He is wearing the traditional Lapp costume, which is blue, yellow, and red. The Lapps, who call themselves Saami, are one of several different groups of people who live in northern Finland. They have their own language, called Lappish. The four peaks in Erkki's hat stand for the northern, southern, eastern, and western winds that blow through Finland.
